Our Lenten Journey

May Your Lenten Journey Be Spiritually Refreshing and Deeply Meaningful!

Lent is a sacred season in the Catholic Church, a 40-day period of preparation leading to Easter. It is a time for reflection, repentance and renewal as we prepare our hearts for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Across Edmonton Catholic Schools, students and staff mark this season through prayer, acts of service, learning and meaningful classroom conversations rooted in faith.

What is Lent?

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday (February 18, 2026) and concludes at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday (April 2, 2026.) During this time, Catholics are invited to focus on three central practices:

  • Prayer – Growing closer to God through intentional time in conversation with Him.
  • Fasting – Making sacrifices that create space for spiritual growth.
  • Almsgiving – Serving others, especially those in need, through generosity and compassion.

These practices guide our school communities throughout the season.

3 Pillars of Lent

Prayer We pray to bring ourselves closer to God, and we pray for the needs of others. We also pray for all who become new members of the Church.

Fast We think about people who are in need and facing injustice. We fast or go without so that we may reflect on and understand their suffering.

Almsgiving During Lent, we share what we have with those in need and do acts of charity.

Reflections with Father Julian

As we journey through Lent, Father Julian, Division Chaplain with Edmonton Catholic Schools, offers these reflections to support prayer, reflection, and spiritual growth. Reflections with Father Julian invite our school communities to deepen faith and live with hope as we prepare for Easter.
